The People's Kitchen (Folkets Kök) is built on the idea that food is community, not a commodity. We strongly believe that everyone should have access to good and healthy food. The Ecosocialist Collective thus started this project to create an alternative relation to food, which is currently shaped by overconsumption, competition, and large amounts of food waste.
Everyone is welcome who aligns with our zero-tolerance policy to any aggressive, threatening or discriminatory behaviour, be this racism, ageism, sexism, ableism, transphobia, homophovia, or any other forms of marginalisation. No matter your age or background, you are welcome to our kitchen.
We serve a delightful array of healthy and delicious vegan dishes. Depending on what ingredients we save, a serving includes one main dish consisting of salad, savory protein, and a carb, followed by a dessert. We also have a bread basket (donated by Ramklints bakery in Lund) that you can freely pick from.
Many of our ingredients are donated and dumpster dived (retrieving discarded food from the bins of supermarkets). We meticulously sort through these items, ensuring they are safe for consumption before creatively incorporating them into our flavourful dishes. We want to show how you can cook with little budget for a big community while saving food that would otherwise have been wasted.
More than just a place to cook and share meals, our kitchen is also used as a space for community activities. We frequently host events such as lectures, clothes swap or movie nights in conjunction with our ordinary kitchen activity. Together we can share knowledge and build a stronger community, one meal at a time!
