about us

Our journey

The People's Kitchen started in 2021, when a group of passionate students from Lund University set up the Ecosocialist Collective Lund. An initiative fighting for social-ecological justice through community building, political education and activism.

One project that flourished out of this is the People's Kitchen, with the aim to provide communal dinners that are an alternative to commodifying food.

Thanks to Smålands Nation, we could set up our kitchen and serve meals on a weekly basis. Our volunteers grew from a handful of friends to a dedicated team of Lundians sharing the commitment to making a difference. Ever since, the People's Kitchen has become a vital community space in the city and provides around 100 portions every week!

Our Mission

To provide free/donation-based and accessible meals, and a space to build community while reducing food waste!

We aim to be a welcoming space where people can come together, share a meal, and build connections. Beyond the meals, we want to be a political space, in which people can exchange, learn and feel empowered to get active. We host educational political workshops such as Food For Thought lectures; collaborate with other organisations such as Food Saving Lund, Alnarp's Agroecology Farm, Lund Students for Palestine and Regeneration 2030; and organise community events.
